The Department of Public Works operates two transfer stations to collect waste and recyclable material from Northampton residents. Because city solid waste services do not receive tax-funding, station operating expenses are paid via access sticker and disposal fees. Sticker purchase grants access to both transfer stations for one fiscal year, and gives residents the low-cost option of transporting their own waste and recycling to a common collection spot. A sticker also grants access to many recycling and hard-to-manage waste collection programs. Policies, fees, and materials accepted at Northampton stations
Participants using the do-it-yourself household trash disposal option must place their trash inside pre-paid, blue SMART (Save Money and Reduce Trash) bags, which are available from participating SMART trash bag retailers. Please contact Deb Laizer with questions.
Residents can now purchase transfer stickers online as well as in person at 125 Locust Street.
