Helpful Information for the 2019 NGYL Season

  • NGYL season usually runs from the end of March to early June (weather permitting)
  • All Players must show up to all team activities with a legal lacrosse stick, face mask and mouth guard. (No participation is allowed without a mouth guard!) Rubber cleats are optional.
  • All players and coaches play under the rules and regulation of the Northampton Parks and Recreation Department.  All coaches will be CORI checked before the start of the season.
  • We play in the Western Massachusetts Girls Lacrosse League (formerly called the Connecticut River Valley - CRV League)
  • Practices (weekdays normally 5pm and later, weekends variable) are usually held at JFK Middle School fields or Florence Field #5 once the fields are ready to play on.  Often this may not occur until mid-late April due to the wet field conditions.  Team's coaches determine practice schedules and alternate practice sites.  Practices the first three weeks or so tend to be after school 2-3 days per week and/or weekend.  Practices during the season tend to occur once or twice a week depending on how many games are scheduled that week.  Players are expected to practice on their own as well!
  • Home games are played at Florence Field #5, 145 Meadow St. or at JFK Middle School Fields.
  • Away games occur throughout Western Ma.
  • It is the parents' responsibility to arrange transportation to and from all practices and games.
  • Games begin around the last week of April and continue for about 6 weeks through the first week of June. Ideally teams will have an equal number of home and away games and average about two games per week.  This is solely arranged by our coaches at the March WMGLL coaches' game scheduling meeting.
  • Games begin at 6:15pm and usually last 45 minutes to one hour.  Only coaches may be on the sidelines with our teams during a game.
  • During the season, a team may be involved in a tournament or two.
  • U.S. Lacrosse has a great website (www.uslacrosse.org) with lots of useful information as well as a great US Lacrosse Girls Youth Rules and Regulations brochure.
