  2. Free Legal Advice to Western MA Residents by Phone

    Western MA resident can receive free legal advice on Wednesday, May 24, through the MA Bar Association's semiannual Western MA Dial-A-Lawyer in program. Volunteer lawyers from the MBA will field phone calls from 4-7pm from residents of Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire counties who have legal concerns or problems. The legal advice is provided at no charge as a public service of the MBA. The Dial-A-Lawyer phone number is (413) 782-1659. If a caller gets a busy signal, they are asked to hang up and try again. Normal telephone charges will apply. (this number is only active from 4-7 pm on May 24) The MBA's Dial-A-Lawyer program is co-sponsored by Western New England University School of Law, The Republican, El Pueblo Latino, the MA Association of Hispanic Attorneys and the Hispanic National Bar Association

  5. Community Swap Shop

    The Northampton Community Swap Shop will open on April 8, 2017 and will be located at the Glendale Road Transfer Station- 170 Glendale Road, Florence. The ReCenter will be open on Saturday mornings from 8am-11:30am through October 2017. Residents may access the swap shop with a current Northampton transfer station permit, or with the purchase of a $10 annual ReCenter season pass. Permits are available for purchase at the DPW offices on Locust Street and both transfer stations. ReCenter passes may be purchased at the DPW and the Glendale Road Transfer Station. Because of a zero cost/zero waste pledge to the City of Northampton, the volunteers who operate the swap shop can accept only those items which are highly popular or recyclable, are desired by regional reuse partners, or for which a disposal fee has been pre-paid. The ReCenter opened in April 2014. It is operated by the Department of Public Works’ ReUse Committee, with guidance and assistance from DPW employees.
