HeatSmart Northampton Deadline Extended Through February
The City of Northampton announced today that the HeatSmart Northampton program, originally scheduled to end January 31, has been extended through the month of February.
Since the program’s start in late July, hundreds of Northampton homeowners have received information and proposals for systems to either supplement or replace existing heating systems. The program aims to raise residents’ awareness that recent technological innovations have made air source heat pumps – or mini-splits as they are often called – with their lower operating costs, a viable option to heat and cool homes in New England, while also offering discounted pricing. Heating with a heat pump costs about the same as heating with a high efficiency natural gas system, but the heat pump system can also cool a home in the summer and produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
The selected installer of the air source heat pumps is Express Plumbing, Heating and Solar Services from of Hatfield, MA and due to the recent cold weather their work has been diverted to emergency plumbing calls unrelated to the HeatSmart program. To make sure every resident who is interested has an opportunity to learn more and sign up the program has been extended. Homeowners that wish to take advantage of HeatSmart Northampton’s discount price will need to sign a contract with the selected installer by the end of February. Significant state and utility rebates, however, will remain in effect even after the HeatSmart program ends.
