The Sewer Division staff are responsible for the maintenance and repair of the City's waste water collection system, including upwards of 90 miles of sanitary sewer mains, 60 miles of storm water drains, 3000 catch basins, 2400 manholes, many open drainage channels and culverts, and several thousand feet of dikes for flood control. The Sewer Division is also responsible for control of roads in the meadows along the Oxbow during flood conditions.
The maintenance program includes responding to broken or plugged sewer lines, regular catch basin cleaning, cleaning and television analysis of sewer lines, installing storm water catch basins as well as storm water and sanitary manholes, controlling sewer odors and rodents, and inspecting and approving private connections to the public sewers.
