The Northampton Water Division (NWD) is a municipally owned and operated public water utility system regulated by Federal and State drinking water laws. Its infrastructure is generally made up of our watersheds, wells, reservoirs, a new Water Filtration Plant, 150 miles of water pipe (some over 100 years old), 1000 water valves, 1200 fire hydrants and 8000 water meters, which are visited and read regularly.
In addition to supplying our drinking water, the NWD maintains City-wide fire protection standards, responds to emergencies (like water main breaks), and does everything possible to meet mandated water-testing standards.
The DPW is a member of two community based committees for the protection of watersheds and source supplies.
