Northampton has several thousand feet of flood control dikes. The DPW, in coordination with an Emergency Management Coordinator, is responsible for actions that secure the City and protect residents from flooding.
During Springtime the Connecticut River frequently rises to a level that covers roads in the Meadows area. Residents in low-lying areas should sign up for DPW Alert email and listen to local media when potential flood conditions exist.
