Northampton has several thousand feet of flood control dikes. The DPW, in coordination with an Emergency Management Coordinator, is responsible for actions that secure the City and protect residents from flooding.

Current flood control reports and documents can be found under the Engineering part of our website.

During Springtime the Connecticut River frequently rises to a level that covers roads in the Meadows area. Residents in low-lying areas should become familiar with the Connecticut River level website (above) where the National Weather Service will make flood crest predictions.

As always, listen to local media when potential flood conditions exist. Road closures and evacuations have happened in the past and will happen again.
