Pleasant Street Petroleum Cleanup

The City of Northampton, the Massachusetts Highway Department, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency are partners in this environmental cleanup project. EPA has awarded MassHighway a Brownfields Cleanup grant to perform soil and groundwater cleanup activities under Pleasant Street in Northampton just north of Conz Street. Information and documents on the project will be posted to this web site. Documents are available for review during regular business hours in the Mayor's Office of Economic Development, City Hall, 210 Main Street, Northampton, MA 01060.

The City of Northampton will hold a public information meeting to explain the petroleum contamination that exists under Pleasant Street (Rt. 5) in the area between Fulton Avenue and Conz Street. Penney Engineering, Inc., the environmental consultants hired by the City to perform the cleanup, will be at the meeting to summarize the approach to cleanup and to answer any questions from the public.

Comment will be taken at the meeting on the approach to the cleanup and written comment will be taken until November 25, 2008. Comments can be submitted to the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development, City Hall, 210 Main Street, Northampton, MA, 01060 or emailed to Mayor@northamptonma.gov.
