SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (70%)
Location: R. K. Finn Ryan Road School
Salary Range: Per Northampton Teachers’ Association Contract
DEFINITION:
The School Psychologist is responsible for assisting students referred for services to derive the fullest educational experience from their school years through evaluation, observation and recommendation of services.
SUPERVISION:
Works under the general direction of the School Principal and Director of Pupil Services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Confers with classroom teachers and social workers about the referred student. Observes the referred student in class. Assesses the difficulties of students through appropriate testing and diagnostic practices.
Administers tests and recommends placement for all exceptional and new students who are referred. Participates with staff in reassessing the progress and current needs of students receiving special education services.
Recommends corrective procedures. Confers with teachers and parents whenever necessary. Consults on special educational needs of children who are screened in kindergarten and preschool evaluations.
Attends case conferences and IEP conferences regarding referred students.
Maintains case records on referred students. Prepares and submits required written reports on students evaluated. Interprets school psychological services to teachers and parents. Attends staff, professional and inter-agency meetings. Participates in inservice training programs. Conducts appropriate research.
RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in special education, school psychology or related field.
Massachusetts Department of Education certification as School Psychologist.
Minimum of 3 years successful teaching or school related experience.
Knowledge, Ability, and Skill:
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Complete understanding of special education regulations, policy and practice.
Ability to coordinate and facilitate school and student needs relative to special education.
Ability to resolve conflicts and interpret information from various sources.
Understanding of the public school environment and mission.
Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply.
Physical Requirements:
Minimal physical effort is required to perform duties under typical office conditions. Ability to operate a keyboard.
