Addressing Regional Homelessness
Mayor Higgins has partnered with Holyoke Mayor Michael Sullivan and other regional leaders to convene a series of meetings and develop a plan to address homelessness in Western Massachusetts. Below are links to some of the documents produced by this initiative so far.
This document describes the current state of homelessness in the Pioneer Valley, including data about who is homeless, how people find themselves homeless and where these folks come from.
These are remarks delivered by Donald Bianchi, a Senior Policy Advocate at the Massachusetts Association of Community Development Corporations, which represents over 60 CDCs statewide- 11 of these in western Massachusetts, and a member of Northampton's Community Preservation Act Committee. The remarks were prepared for the Regional Homelessness Symposium held on January 22, 2007 at Holyoke Community College.
