SUPERVISOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION

One Full-time (40Hrs./Week) Vacancy
Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $60,456 - $68,008

DEFINITION:
Highly skilled leader to assist the Director of Special Education with the district-wide administration, implementation and evaluation of all pre-referral, Special Education, and Out of District approved Mass Approved Special Education schools, and other private special education placements, including collaboratives.

SUPERVISION
Works under the direction of the Director of Special Education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Responsible for: the compilation of data and record keeping required by state and local agencies regarding Special Education.
2. In collaboration with Director of Special Education and/or Principals provides for the ongoing evaluations of programs and Department of Special Education staff.
3. Assists in the fiscal planning and the acquiring and maintaining of grants.
4. Assist in the recruiting, screening, hiring, assigning and evaluating of special education staff.
5. Arranges for placement of student and acts as liaison for all students in Mass. approved private Special Education schools and other special education private schools, including collaboratives.
6. Assumes leadership in transition planning for students transitioning from high school programs including 688 referrals to the Bureau of Transitional Planning.
7. Keeps the Director of Special Education updated regarding out of district placements, including the related finances and contracts.
8. Supervises all home tutorial programs and services for students.
9. Assists in the supervision of all out-of-district special education programs and services, including all related finances and contracts. Prepares an annual budget for out-of-district programs (monitors and coordinates budget with business office). Facilitates the development and implementation of in-house special education programs to keep as many students as possible within the school district.
10. Assists with the establishment of standards and guidelines for the internal evaluation of special education programs and related services and assists in the implementation of such internal evaluations.
11. Implements and coordinates the communication of procedures, and regulations related to special education to staff.
12. Oversees the Medicaid reimbursement program for students in Special Education.
13. Represents the Director of Special Education when he/she is not available.
14. Performs necessary related work as assigned by the Director of Special Education and/or Superintendent.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Minimum Master’s Degree in Education and Certified as Administrator of Special Education
At least 3 years experience as a special education teacher required.
At least 3 years experience in Special Education Program Management and/or experience working with Mass approved Special Education private and non-approved schools preferred.
Experience with Medicaid reimbursement preferred.
Experience in budget development and grant writing preferred.
Experience with Federal and State regulations in Special Education required
