The Management Information Systems Department (MIS) was established by ordinance in 1996. The department provides expert advice to meet the technology needs of city departments. MIS provides network and general technology infrastructure support to city departments and acts as liaison on information technology issues between city departments, Northampton Public Schools, and the Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School. MIS authors and enforces the city's technology policies. The department coordinates city-wide systems including networking, telecommunications, applications, office automation, consulting, policies, computer training practices and operations, telephones and e-mail.
