Tree Committee Vacancy

Mon., Jul 20 The Northampton Tree Committee is encouraging interested residents to apply for a new vacancy on the Committee following the resignation of one of its members.

The mission of the Northampton Tree Committee is to increase, protect and maintain the health, beauty, quantity, diversity and vitality of Northampton's trees for the benefit of its citizens and future generations. Tree Committee duties include:

* Develops and recommends a Public Tree Management Plan for adoption by City Council
* Develops ordinances and guidelines governing the management of the City's public trees
* Seeks grants and conducts fund-raising to assist the Committee's mission.
* Oversees adherence to state and local laws governing shade trees on public ways and scenic roads

The resigning member was a Certified Arborist, and while this is not a requirement for serving, the Tree Committee would encourage Arborists to consider making an application.
