Board of Almoners

The Board of Almoners administers a trust fund created by the will of Mr. Whiting Street in the late 1800's to aid the "worthy poor" of Northampton. It provides one-time assistance for those in need whose requests for aid have been unmet by other assistance sources.

The Board is comprised of 7 voting members – the Mayor and 6 members who are appointed by the City Council for staggered three year terms. The Mayor serves as the ex-officio and voting chair. Members must be residents of Northampton.

The Board meets quarterly to review applications for benefits on the fourth Wednesday of January, April, July and October at 4:30pm to review applications for aid.

Applications for consideration need to be submitted at least one week prior to a meeting.
