Volunteer Programs
Volunteer Opportunities as we scale up this fall
There will be many ways to volunteer at the center, and we always have a variety of ways to help out and various levels of options for time commitments. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or have volunteered in the past and want to return, we will be glad to receive your application. Our Volunteer Coordinator will need to meet with you to complete the screening process and to discuss various options. We will be onboarding new volunteers as we can train them and begin operations of the various activities or programs volunteers are placed. Placement examples are Coffee Shop Crew, Dining Room Crew, Technology Tutors, Workshop Instructors, Gardening Crew, Movie Committee, and Brown Bag Program. You can find the Volunteer Application paperwork here.
Why volunteer at the senior center?
Volunteers are the heart and soul of everything we do at the Northampton Senior Center. From the reception desk to the coffee shop, photography class instructors to exercise instructors and bingo callers, volunteers keep the center running.
Research shows that older adults who participate in senior center programs can learn to manage and delay the onset of chronic disease and experience measurable improvements in their physical, social, spiritual, emotional, mental, and economic well-being. Compared with their peers, senior center participants have higher levels of health, social interaction, and life satisfaction. (ncoa.org)
In 2018, over 100 volunteers that would have equated to over $400,000 if having to pay salaries. Are you interested in sharing your time and talent as a part of our volunteer team and enriching the lives of area seniors? Check out the available opportunities, volunteer application and volunteer manual below. For further questions please contact the Assistant Director & Volunteer Coordinator at 413-587-1228.
