Oath for Public Office

There are three Commissioners to Qualify Public Officers in the City Clerk’s Office.  This enables us to administer oaths of office to public officials.  If you are chosen or appointed to an office and must take and subscribe to oaths of office under the Massachusetts Constitution, Amending Article 6, and Chapter 30 Section 12 of the MGL.

HOW TO SCHEDULE FOR PUBLIC OFFICE OATH

Congratulations on your recent appointment or assignment! Please read the instructions below before using our schedule:

FOR NOTARIES AND JUSTICE OF THE PEACE:

  • Your Oath will take place at the City Clerk's office in City Hall (210 Main St.) and it will last roughly 15 minutes. You may plan on arriving 5 minutes early.
  • When scheduling please be sure to enter your address as it was submitted to the appointing authority.
  • MATERIALS REQUIRED ON THE DAY OF APPOINTMENT:
    • Your paperwork, including the certificate you received from the appointing authority (see sample below)
    • Photo ID
    • Fee of $15 (We accept cash or business checks)

  • Let us know when you arrive.
  • We will meet with you to complete the paperwork and administer the oath.
