Engineering

The Engineering Division provides a wide range of engineering support services to the residents of Northampton, contractors, surveyors, engineers, consultants, other City departments and the general public. The Engineering Division is responsible for developing and overseeing engineering aspects of the City’s civil engineering infrastructure, which includes: water supply, treatment, and distribution; sewer collection and treatment; drainage collection and discharge; flood control; traffic management, pavement, and sidewalks; and the transfer stations and landfill. These responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Asset management planning and budgeting
  • Procurement and management of engineering and consulting services for analytical and
    feasibility studies
  • Procurement and management of engineering services for survey, design, bidding, construction
    administration and oversight of infrastructure improvement projects
  • In-house survey, design, procurement, construction administration and inspection of
    infrastructure improvement projects 
  • Geographic Information System (GIS) development and maintenance
  • Plan review of all Planning and Zoning projects affecting City infrastructure
  • Regulatory compliance reporting and support
  • Informational support to residents, contractors, surveyors, engineers, consultants, other City
    departments and the general public
