The Northampton Water Division is a municipally owned and operated public water utility system regulated by federal and state drinking water laws. The Department of Public Works is a member of two community based committees for the protection of watersheds and source supplies.
Water infrastructure is generally made up of watersheds, wells, reservoirs, a modern water filtration plant, water mains, water valves, fire hydrants, and water meters which are visited and read regularly.
In addition to supplying our drinking water, the Water Division maintains city-wide fire protection standards, responds to emergencies (like water main breaks), and does everything possible to meet mandated water-testing standards.
