Historic Preservation Awards

The Historical Commission were first presented in 1975 and recognize projects and individuals that have helped to contribute to the historic character of the City, and help to raise awareness about the importance of historic preservation.  Northampton’s built environment is a crucial part of its appeal as a place to live and work, and the Historical Commission seeks to encourage the preservation of the character of the city’s buildings and public spaces.  In addition to acknowledging work that has carefully retained historic elements and materials, the Commission also recognizes projects that have reinvigorated spaces with creative new uses or made them more welcoming for existing uses.
