Early Voting in Northampton

For Immediate release – August 20, 2020

Northampton – In person Early Voting for the September 1 st State Primary will take place Aug. 22 – 28. The November General Election early voting is scheduled for October 17 – 30. Early voting will be at the Northampton Senior Center, 67 Conz Street.

For voters who wish to drop off their mail-in ballot during Early Voting, there will be a secure drop box at the front entrance of the Senior Center. There is an additional drop box located at the Crafts Avenue entrance outside City Hall, 210 Main Street.

City Clerk Pamela Powers says that her office has already processed more than 8,200 requests for vote-by-mail ballots for the September primary. “The response to the Vote-By Mail postcard campaign has been fantastic,” Powers said. “These are challenging times and people need to stay engaged in a way they feel most comfortable. For those concerned about health, voting from home provides the safest voting experience.”

Powers says that if people choose to go to the polls on Election Day, they should go to their normal voting location. All existing polling locations will be up and running but the floor plan at each location has been expanded to help ensure appropriate social distancing. At the Senior Center, precinct 4A has been relocated within the building to Patte’s Front Room and 4B has been moved to Activity Room #1. Polls will be open from 7 am to 8 pm.

The day last to register to vote for the September primary is Aug 22nd and for the general election in November, that date is October 14th. In person registration will be offered at City Hall from 2 pm – 4 pm and from 6 pm to 8 pm on both dates. Registrations will be done out in front of the building this coming Saturday.

If you are interested in working at the polls, applications are available on the City Clerk page of the city’s website @
