1. Where is your office located?: We are two doors down from City Hall in Memorial Hall. We are right next to Pulaski Park and the Academy of Music. Our office is located on the first floor. Handicap access is available by parking to the left of Memorial Hall and entering the doors closest to the Unitarian Society.

2. How do I become a substitute in the Northampton School Department?: If you want to be a substitute teacher, you must have your bachelor's degree. If you want to be a substitute nurse, you must be an R.N. If you want to be a substitute paraprofessional or educational support professional (ESP) you must have a high school diploma and previous experience with children.

You may complete your application either online through www.SchoolSpring.com or by submitting an application and additional required materials directly to the Human Resources Department. See the Human Resources Page for more information.

3. Can I submit a resume for any future openings you may have?: No, we only accept applications for current, open positions. Those positions are posted on our bulletin board and on the website, and we also advertise positions in the Daily Hampshire Gazette, professional association websites, JobsintheValley.com and occasionally on Craigslist.
Educational jobs for the Northampton Public School System are published on www.SchoolSpring.com.

4. I haven't received my new insurance card. Who do I contact?: The City has contracted with the Group Insurance Commission of Massachusetts (GIC) to provide health insurance beginning January 1, 2014. You can expect to received your new card by the 3rd or 4th week of December. If you have not received your card from the health insurance provider you chose by January 15, 2014, please contact Joanne Lagrant at 413-587-1256.

5. I am on the city's group health insurance, how do I get reimbursed for the outpatient / inpatient surgery co-pays?: Your health insurance vendor may send an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) to your home each time they receive a claim on your behalf that is subject to an eligible co-pay. If you don't receive it within two months of service, please contact your health insurance provider and request the EOB. When you receive the EOB that shows your inpatient or outpatient surgery co-pay, bring that EOB into Human Resources to request a reimbursement.

6. Is there any time limit on submitting for reimbursements?: Yes. All claims must be submitted within one year of when they are processed. Claims that are older than one year are not eligible for reimbursement.
