Public Notice of Fort Street Sewer Overflow - Resolved
NORTHAMPTON: This is a public notification from the City of Northampton Department of Public Works in accordance with 314 CMR 16.00, Commonwealth of Massachusetts Regulations for Sanitary Sewer Overflows.
Earlier today, there was a cross-connection confirmed in the City sewer system to the City drain system on Fort Street, discharging to an outfall to a wetland near Old Springfield Road. The discharge consisted of waste not treated before release. The cross-connection was due to a broken pipe and the total discharge is not possible to determine. The situation has since been resolved. We urge the public to avoid the wetland area adjacent to Old Springfield Road for 48 hours.
