[ARCHIVED] New Requirements for Short-Term Liquor Licenses Starting July 1

If you're planning to apply for a short-term liquor license in Northampton, take note: beginning July 1, 2025, the venue must have been inspected by both the Building Department and Fire/Rescue Department within the past 12 months.

If your site hasn’t been inspected in that time, it’s your responsibility to schedule and pay for an inspection before your license can be issued. No license will be approved without current inspections on file.

Inspectors will be checking for things like unobstructed exits, working exit signs/lights, and functioning fire alarm and sprinkler systems. A full inspection checklist is available at the link below.

Please see the newly adopted regulation for Short-Term License Inspection below:

An applicant for a short-term liquor license shall, as part of the application package, certify that the premises to be licensed are subject to inspection by the Northampton Building Department and Fire Rescue Department no less than annually, and that such premises have been inspected within the preceding twelve months. Any applicant that cannot certify that the premises have been inspected within the preceding twelve months shall be responsible for arranging an inspection by the Building Department and Fire Rescue Department and for payment of such fees as are determined by the Building Department and Fire Rescue Department prior to the issuance of the short-term license. No short-term liquor license shall be issued to any premises that have not been inspected by the Building Department and Fire Rescue Department within the preceding twelve months.

ADOPTED: May 21, 2025
