[ARCHIVED] Construction for the Week of April 19th


Highway Division Updates

  • Last week, the Highway Division:
    • Repaired potholes on Norfolk Avenue and Pine Street
    • Patched trench cuts on Harrison Avenue and Washington Avenue
    • Continued grading Old Springfield Road and Pynchon Meadow Road
    • Prepared for possible snow event
    • Replaced a stop sign on Montague Road at Chesterfield Road
  • Street sweeping will begin soon
  • To report a pothole, please submit a request via the Pothole Repair Form; the largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles; as hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.

Atwood Drive Water Main Replacement

  • The City has contracted with GEG Construction, Inc. for roadway reconstruction and water line replacement on Atwood Drive
  • Project begins on Tuesday, April 20th with the mobilization of equipment to the site, installation of tree protection & erosion controls, and conducting test pits to continue throughout the week
  • Officers will be onsite to assist with traffic control and one-way alternating traffic will be maintained at all times - the parking lots behind the medical buildings may be used periodically for vehicles to access 8 and 22 Atwood Drive medical buildings

Beacon Street Sewer Repair

  • The City has contracted with Geeleher Enterprises, Inc. to repair a deep sewer main on Beacon Street
  • Work will include excavation within the right-of-way
  • Work is currently on hold but will continue in the weeks ahead
  • Travel may be restricted to a single lane; officers will be onsite to assist with traffic control

Bridge Street Cemetery

  • The City has contracted with Hastie Fence Co. to replace fencing at Bridge Street Cemetery
  • The project includes:
    • Removing a 900 foot section of existing chain link fence that runs along Bridge Street and a portion of Parsons Street and replacing it with a more historically appropriate tubular steel fence
    • Replacing historic entrance gates on Bridge Street and Parsons Street

  • Work on punch list items will be ongoing through the spring months

Damon Road Reconstruction

  • MassDOT has contracted with Gagliarducci Construction, Inc. to reconstruct Damon Road from the bike path to just beyond the intersection with King Street, North King Street and Bridge Road
  • The project will provide intersection and traffic signal improvements, extended sidewalks, a shared use path and other safety improvements
  • The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2023
  • Utility relocation, drainage improvements and water & sewer replacement will occur prior to full depth roadway reconstruction
  • Gagliarducci will continue working on drainage and concrete headwalls on the eastern end of the project - one lane traffic will be in effect as required for this work
  • Questions about the project should be directed to MassDOT District 2
