[ARCHIVED] Construction for the Week of May 3rd

Highway Division Updates

  • Last week, the Highway Division:
    • Repaired potholes on Burts Pit Rd Ext, Calvin Ter, Fifth Ave, Franklin St, Harrison Ave, Riverbank Rd, Trumbull Rd, Woodbine Ave and Woods Rd
    • Patched a trench cut on Dryads Green
    • Continued street sweeping in Ward 5
  • Street sweeping schedule by ward will be in the following order: 5, 4, 3, 2, 7, 1, 6
  • To report a pothole, please submit a request via the Pothole Repair Form; the largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles; as hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.

Atwood Drive Water Main Replacement

  • The City has contracted with GEG Construction, Inc. for roadway reconstruction and water line replacement on Atwood Drive
  • The contractor will continue installing the new water main and new service connections this week, with the old main to remain in service temporarily
  • Officers will be onsite to assist with traffic control and one-way alternating traffic will be maintained at all times - the parking lots behind the medical buildings may be used periodically for vehicles to access 8 and 22 Atwood Drive medical buildings

Beacon Street Sewer Repair

  • The City has contracted with Geeleher Enterprises, Inc. to repair a deep sewer main on Beacon Street
  • Work will include excavation within the right-of-way
  • Work will start this week or next week depending on permits and scheduling
  • Travel may be restricted to a single lane; officers will be onsite to assist with traffic control

Bridge Street Cemetery

  • The City has contracted with Hastie Fence Co. to replace fencing at Bridge Street Cemetery
  • The project includes:
    • Removing a 900 foot section of existing chain link fence that runs along Bridge Street and a portion of Parsons Street and replacing it with a more historically appropriate tubular steel fence
    • Replacing historic entrance gates on Bridge Street and Parsons Street

  • Work on punch list items will be ongoing through the spring months

Damon Road Reconstruction

  • MassDOT has contracted with Gagliarducci Construction, Inc. to reconstruct Damon Road from the bike path to just beyond the intersection with King Street, North King Street and Bridge Road
  • The project will provide intersection and traffic signal improvements, extended sidewalks, a shared use path and other safety improvements
  • The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2023
  • Utility relocation, drainage improvements and water & sewer replacement will occur prior to full depth roadway reconstruction
  • Gagliarducci will continue working on drainage and concrete headwalls on the eastern end of the project
  • Travel will be restricted to a single lane as needed; officers will assist with traffic control

King Street Corridor Improvements

  • MassDOT has contracted with Morais Concrete Service, Inc. to construct roadway improvements to King Street between Bright Street and Church Street
  • The project will provide lane reconfiguration, bicycle and pedestrian improvements, landscaping and drainage improvements and new traffic signals at North & Summer Streets and Finn Street at both King and State Streets
  • The project is scheduled to be completed in phases by Fall 2022
  • Drainage work will begin this week between Church & Finn Streets
  • Two-way traffic will be maintained with a southbound lane closure after 9 am; officers will assist with traffic control
