Highway Division Updates
- Street sweeping continues in Ward 5
- Street sweeping schedule by ward will be in the following order: 5, 4, 3, 2, 7, 1, 6
- To report a pothole, please submit a request via the Pothole Repair Form; the largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles; as hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.
Atwood Drive Water Main Replacement
- The City has contracted with GEG Construction, Inc. for roadway reconstruction and water line replacement on Atwood Drive
- The contractor will continue installing the new water main and new service connections this week, with the old main to remain in service temporarily
- Officers will assist with traffic control and one-way alternating traffic will be maintained at all times - the parking lots behind the medical buildings may be used periodically for vehicles to access 8 and 22 Atwood Drive medical buildings
Beacon Street Sewer Repair
- The City has contracted with Geeleher Enterprises, Inc. to repair a deep sewer main on Beacon Street
- Work will include excavation within the right-of-way
- Work will begin and be completed this week, weather permitting
- Travel may be restricted to a single lane; officers will assist with traffic control
Bridge Street Cemetery
- The City has contracted with Hastie Fence Co. to replace fencing at Bridge Street Cemetery
- The project includes:
- Removing a 900 foot section of existing chain link fence that runs along Bridge Street and a portion of Parsons Street and replacing it with a more historically appropriate tubular steel fence
- Replacing historic entrance gates on Bridge Street and Parsons Street

- Work on punch list items will be ongoing through the spring months
Bridge Street, Damon Road, Interstate 91 - Exit 19
- MassDOT has contracted with Baltazar Contractors, Inc. to construct a roundabout and associated improvements to the Interstate 91 - Exit 19 interchange at the base of the Coolidge Bridge
- The project is scheduled to be completed by June 2021
- Baltazar will be undertaking paving operations of the roadway and shared use path, which includes raising structures
- Alternating lane closures will be in effect on Route 9 eastbound and westbound in addition to alternating traffic on Damon Road
- Motorists should expect traffic delays; officers will assist with traffic control
- There will be no work on Friday, May 14th due to UMass graduation

Damon Road Reconstruction
- MassDOT has contracted with Gagliarducci Construction, Inc. to reconstruct Damon Road from the bike path to just beyond the intersection with King Street, North King Street and Bridge Road
- The project will provide intersection and traffic signal improvements, extended sidewalks, a shared use path and other safety improvements
- The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2023
- Utility relocation, drainage improvements and water & sewer replacement will occur prior to full depth roadway reconstruction
- Gagliarducci will continue working on drainage and concrete headwalls on the eastern end of the project
- Travel will be restricted to a single lane as needed; officers will assist with traffic control
- There will be no work on Friday, May 14th due to UMass graduation

King Street Corridor Improvements
- MassDOT has contracted with Morais Concrete Service, Inc. to construct roadway improvements to King Street between Bright Street and Church Street
- The project will provide lane reconfiguration, bicycle and pedestrian improvements, landscaping and drainage improvements and new traffic signals at North & Summer Streets and Finn Street at both King and State Streets
- The project is scheduled to be completed in phases by Fall 2022
- Drainage work will continue this week between Church & Finn Streets
- Two-way traffic will be maintained with a southbound lane closure as needed; officers will assist with traffic control

North Farms Road
- The City contracted with Palmer Paving Corp last year (2020) for pavement reclamation and drain improvements on North Farms Road and North Maple Street
- The contractor or their subcontractors may be on North Farms Road or at Fitzgerald Lake this week finishing up contracted work, such as laying porous asphalt on the Fitzgerald Lake path, installing a pavement patch near Country Way or working on various punch list items
