Effective immediately, the City of Northampton Department of Public Works (DPW) is ending the water use restriction for users of the Northampton Public Water Supply. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Energy and Environmental Affairs Drought Task Force has changed the Connecticut River Valley drought status from an advisory to a normal status and the Mill River has achieved a flow of greater than 26.3 cubic feet per second (cfs) for a period of seven consecutive days. The City of Northampton is required through its Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Water Management Act Permit to implement water restrictions when an advisory drought condition or higher has been declared or when the Mill River flow drops below 26.3 cfs for three consecutive days. The City appreciates the efforts water users have made to comply with the ban on non-essential water use.
