[ARCHIVED] June 6: Spring Reuse & Recycling Rally

Hard-to-Recycle Plastics to be Collected at Spring Recycling Rally

A warm welcome will be given to certain plastic items barred from curbside recycling bins during a special collection on Saturday, June 6, from 9am-12pm at Smith Vocational High School, 80 Locust Street. The event is free and open to the public. Bulky rigid plastic items, white Styrofoam and pellet-stove wood pellet bags will be collected for recycling. Reusable bulky rigid plastic items will be made available to the public free of charge during the event. Details about acceptable material are provided below. More information is available at www.northamptonma.gov/reduce-waste.

Detailed Collection Information:

Styrofoam
Large pieces white, clean and dry foam, with no attached paper or plastic will be accepted. Please no colored foam, food-related foam (cups, plates, trays), or packing peanuts.
Please note: The facility accepting our collected material considers colored and food-related foam contaminants to their product. The Reuse Committee does not encourage the use of fresh and clean drinking water to wash food-related foam for the purpose of recycling.

Pellet Bags
Bags must be empty, dry and relatively clean. Only bags from wood pellets will be accepted. Please stack empty bags, roll them together and place the roll(s) inside another empty pellet bag.

Bulky Rigid Plastic (BRP)
Large and rigid plastic items such as laundry baskets, pet carriers, lawn furniture, yard toys and plastic flower pots are most desirable. Do not bring PVC pipes, flexible/crinkly plastic and containers which have held hazardous material. Additional descriptions and illustrations of acceptable items are available at www.northamptonma.gov/reduce-waste.

This event is produced by the Northampton Department of Public Works in partnership with the ReUse Committee.
