Highway Division Updates
- Last week, the Highway Division:
- Repaired potholes on Jackson Street, North Main Street, Old Wilson Road, Prospect Court, Spring Street Extension and Washington Avenue
- Repaired a manhole cover on Elm Street
- Cleaned a culvert and a ditch on Reservoir Road
- Investigated a drainage issue on Grove Avenue
- Completed parking lot repairs for the School Department
- Continued preparations for winter operations
- Street sweeping continues in Ward 2
- To report a pothole, please submit a request via the Pothole Repair Form; the largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles; as hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.
Rocky Hill Road (Route 66) Drainage Improvements
- The City has contracted with Geeleher Enterprises, Inc. to make roadway drainage improvements on Rocky Hill Road in the vicinity of the Hampshire County Jail & House of Corrections
- Drainage improvements are complete
- Paving the driveway entrance is planned for the week of December 14th
North Farms Road & North Maple Street Paving Project
- The City has contracted with Palmer Paving Corp for pavement reclamation on North Farms Road, from the Williamsburg Town line to the intersection with North Maple & Mountain Streets, and North Maple Street, from Mountain Street to Bridge Road
- The project will also include the following features:
- Roadway drainage improvements on North Farms Road in the vicinity of Country Way
- Repaving the walking path into the Fitzgerald Lake Conservation Area
- Extending the North Maple Street sidewalk to provide continuous sidewalk from Bridge Road to the basketball parking lot at Arcanum Field
- Radar speed signs at strategic locations on North Farms Road
- A new crosswalk on Bridge Road connecting the Mountain Street sidewalk to the sidewalk along the south side of Bridge Road; this includes the installation of two rectangular rapid flashing beacons that will alert vehicles traveling on Bridge Road that pedestrians are crossing
- Crews will continue working on shoulder treatments, resetting mailboxes and installing traffic signs this week
- Officers will be on-site to direct traffic around work areas
Forbes Library Drainage Improvements
- The City has contracted with Jack Goncalves & Sons Inc. to make drainage improvements at Forbes Library
- Work includes removal of trees and installing drainage improvements down the slope south of the library's parking lot and along the rail trail heading east from the library
- Work continues this week on slope stabilization measures above the rail trail and drainage improvements along the rail trail; the rear half of the library parking lot will be used for construction activities
- Equipment may be working along the rail trail from the New South Street Bridge to 500 feet west of the bridge and officers may be present during work hours; please seek alternate routes
Bridge Street, Damon Road, Interstate 91 - Exit 19
- MassDOT has contracted with Baltazar Contractors, Inc. to construct a roundabout and associated improvements to the Interstate 91 - Exit 19 interchange at the base of the Coolidge Bridge
- The project is scheduled to be completed by June 2021
- Temporary line striping defining the completed roundabout layout is in place
- Slight lane shifts will be required for sidewalk work and sign placement
- Final paving and line striping of the roundabout will occur in Spring 2021

Damon Road Reconstruction
- MassDOT has contracted with Gagliarducci Construction, Inc. to reconstruct Damon Road from the bike path to just beyond the intersection with King Street, North King Street and Bridge Road
- The project will provide intersection and traffic signal improvements, extended sidewalks, a shared use path and other safety improvements
- The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2023
- Utility relocation, drainage improvements and water & sewer replacement will occur prior to full depth roadway reconstruction
- Environmental controls, building demolition, utility relocation and drainage work this fall will all take place off-road
