Highway Division Updates
- Last week, the Highway Division:
- Repaired potholes on Bridge Road, Cahillane Terrace, Clark Avenue, Dunphy Drive, Evergreen Road, Fort Street, Grandview Street, Hatfield Street, Lasell Avenue, Maple Ridge Road, Market Street, Nonotuck Street, Prospect Street, Redford Drive and South Street
- Replaced hospital signs on Bridge Road and Hatfield Street, a speed sign on Hockanum Road and a stop sign on Ryan Road
- Replenished sand barrels located throughout the City
- Corrected the pedestrian signal on King Street at the Mass Central Rail Trail crossing and updated traffic signals around the City with LED bulbs
- Began 24-hour service with 2nd and 3rd shift coverage
- Implemented snow removal operations
- To report a pothole, please submit a request via the Pothole Repair Form; the largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles; as hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.
Bridge Street Cemetery
- The City has contracted with Hastie Fence Co. to replace fencing at Bridge Street Cemetery
- The project includes:
- Removing a 900 foot section of existing chain link fence that runs along Bridge Street and a portion of Parsons Street and replacing it with a more historically appropriate tubular steel fence
- Replacing historic entrance gates on Bridge Street and Parsons Street

- Work is expected to be ongoing throughout the month of December
North Farms Road & North Maple Street Paving Project
- The City has contracted with Palmer Paving Corp for pavement reclamation on North Farms Road, from the Williamsburg Town line to the intersection with North Maple & Mountain Streets, and North Maple Street, from Mountain Street to Bridge Road
- Palmer Paving has demobilized for the winter
- Repairs to the shoulders treatments (loam and seed or gravel) and other minor work will be completed in Spring 2021
- Northeast Sign will be installing two rectangular rapid flashing beacons on Bridge Road and four radar & flashing speed signs on North Farms Road within the next couple of weeks
Bridge Street, Damon Road, Interstate 91 - Exit 19
- MassDOT has contracted with Baltazar Contractors, Inc. to construct a roundabout and associated improvements to the Interstate 91 - Exit 19 interchange at the base of the Coolidge Bridge
- The project is scheduled to be completed by June 2021
- Baltazar has demobilized for the winter
- Remaining work, including final paving and line striping, will occur in Spring 2021

Damon Road Reconstruction
- MassDOT has contracted with Gagliarducci Construction, Inc. to reconstruct Damon Road from the bike path to just beyond the intersection with King Street, North King Street and Bridge Road
- The project will provide intersection and traffic signal improvements, extended sidewalks, a shared use path and other safety improvements
- The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2023
- Utility relocation, drainage improvements and water & sewer replacement will occur prior to full depth roadway reconstruction
- Environmental controls, building demolition, utility relocation and drainage work this fall will all take place off-road
