[ARCHIVED] Construction for the Week of December 28th


Highway Division Updates

  • Last week, the Highway Division:
    • Implemented snow removal operations
    • Replaced a pedestrian sign on State Street
    • Repaired the pedestrian light on King Street at the Mass Central Rail Trail crossing
    • Patched a pavement cut on North King Street
    • Repaired potholes at Main Street/King Street intersection
  • To report a pothole, please submit a request via the Pothole Repair Form; the largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles; as hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.

Bridge Street Cemetery

  • The City has contracted with Hastie Fence Co. to replace fencing at Bridge Street Cemetery
  • The project includes:
    • Removing a 900 foot section of existing chain link fence that runs along Bridge Street and a portion of Parsons Street and replacing it with a more historically appropriate tubular steel fence
    • Replacing historic entrance gates on Bridge Street and Parsons Street

  • Work is expected to be ongoing throughout the month of December

North Farms Road & North Maple Street Paving Project

  • The City has contracted with Palmer Paving Corp for pavement reclamation on North Farms Road, from the Williamsburg Town line to the intersection with North Maple & Mountain Streets, and North Maple Street, from Mountain Street to Bridge Road
  • Palmer Paving has demobilized for the winter
  • Repairs to the shoulders treatments (loam and seed or gravel) and other minor work will be completed in Spring 2021
  • Northeast Sign will be installing two rectangular rapid flashing beacons on Bridge Road and four radar & flashing speed signs on North Farms Road within the next couple of weeks

Bridge Street, Damon Road, Interstate 91 - Exit 19

  • MassDOT has contracted with Baltazar Contractors, Inc. to construct a roundabout and associated improvements to the Interstate 91 - Exit 19 interchange at the base of the Coolidge Bridge
  • The project is scheduled to be completed by June 2021
  • Baltazar has demobilized for the winter
  • Remaining work, including final paving and line striping, will occur in Spring 2021
  • Questions about the project should be directed to MassDOT District 2

Damon Road Reconstruction

  • MassDOT has contracted with Gagliarducci Construction, Inc. to reconstruct Damon Road from the bike path to just beyond the intersection with King Street, North King Street and Bridge Road
  • The project will provide intersection and traffic signal improvements, extended sidewalks, a shared use path and other safety improvements
  • The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2023
  • Utility relocation, drainage improvements and water & sewer replacement will occur prior to full depth roadway reconstruction
  • Environmental controls, building demolition, utility relocation and drainage work this fall will all take place off-road
  • Questions about the project should be directed to MassDOT District 2
