[ARCHIVED] The City of Northampton’s Public Health Nurse to begin office hours at the Senior Center

As people age, it becomes increasingly important for them to adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles in order to continue to live as independently as possible and manage chronic medical conditions. Starting January 2015, the City of Northampton’s Public Health Nurse, Lisa Steinbock, RN, will be holding office hours at the Senior Center to support the Senior Center’s role empowering older adults to feel more connected and make healthy choices about their lives.

Lisa joined the Northampton Public Health Department in January of 2014. Previous work experience includes several years of direct care nursing at Bay State Hospital and home health care nursing for patients with autoimmune disorders. During Lisa’s tenure at the hospital, she worked with many issues relating to senior health concerns, such as; knee and hip replacements, medication management, injuries caused by falls and osteoporosis.

Public health nursing is the practice of promoting health and preventing disease for population groups using knowledge from nursing, social work, and public health sciences. Through medical screenings, skill building, education and outreach, Lisa will provide support to seniors to reduce their risk of disability, manage chronic illness and prevent hospital readmissions.

Lisa’s hours at the Senior Center will be from 1 – 3 pm on the second Tuesday of the month and from 10 am – 12 pm on the third Thursday of the month. Lisa’s office will be in the Wellness Center and she will be available either by appointment or just by walking in! Lisa will also be providing seminars on a regular basis on topics related to wellness and she encourages seniors to make suggestions of topics that they are interested in.
