Market (Farmers) Permit Application

  5. Fee
    The fee for this permit is $50.00 made payable to the City of Northampton and due upon application submission.
  6. Parking, Access and Circulation
    The market site location shall not have a negative impact on public parking, traffic circulation, safe pedestrian access, or access to adjacent businesses and abutters. The proposed site shall have adequate parking for farm vehicles. Any specific parking, access or circulation conditions should be listed.   7. Signage
    Sign permits for attached, fixed, free standing and sandwich board signs are processed through the Building Department. Please call 413-587-1240 for more information regarding the process.
  8. Insurance/Liability
    The Market shall submit a Certificate of Insurance for general liability coverage in the amount of $100,000/$1,000,000 with the City of Northampton named as an additional insured. Please contact the City Auditor with insurance questions at 413-587-1205.
  9. Vending Area Clean-Up
    The Market shall maintain a clean vending area with the clean-up and disposal of all trash after each Market event. For more information, please contact the Central Services Department at 413-587-1238.
  10. Other Permits & License Approvals

    It is the responsibility of the market's manager or individual vendors to obtain all other applicable local or state permits/licenses.

  11. Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS)

    DHHS requires a vendor permit for various types of establishments and food products sold at markets. Please contact DHHS at 413-587-1214.

  12. License Commission

    If you wish to sell farm-winery products, you must obtain a Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources permit and a one-day license from the Northampton License Commission. For more information, please contact the License Commission at 413-587-1212.
